Booking terms
The fine print, in plain English.

1. What we provide
Red Can Lifeguards ("we", "us") arranges certified lifeguards to watch the water at your event for the hours you book. A lifeguard's job is water supervision: scanning, enforcing pool rules, and responding to emergencies. They don't babysit, serve food or drinks, or supervise guests who are out of the water.
2. You stay responsible for your guests
A lifeguard adds a layer of protection. It doesn't replace parent and adult supervision. Parents and guardians remain responsible for watching their own children at all times, in and out of the water.
Swimming is only supervised while your lifeguard is on duty. Before they arrive and after they leave, nobody from our crew is responsible for the water, so please keep the pool closed outside the booked hours.
3. Your pool or venue
You're responsible for providing a pool, spa or swimming area in safe working order: water clear enough to see the bottom, drain covers and gates working, and any hazards fixed or clearly marked. Please tell us about depth, diving boards, slides, spas and anything unusual when you book.
Please give your lifeguard a chair and shade by the water, and access to a phone and a clear path for emergency responders. Let them know about any guest with a medical condition or who can't swim.
For beaches, lakes and public or shared facilities, you're responsible for any permits or permission the operator requires.
4. The lifeguard's call is final on safety
Your lifeguard may set and enforce rules, pause or end swimming for unsafe conditions (lightning, cloudy water, unsafe behavior, overcrowding, or guests who have been drinking), and call 911. Time lost to a safety pause isn't refunded. If conditions make the booking unsafe to start, we'll work with you to reschedule.
5. Number of lifeguards
We recommend a number of lifeguards based on what you tell us about your swimmers, ages and water. If you choose fewer lifeguards than we recommend, or more people swim than you told us, coverage will be stretched. We may require additional guards or limit how many people swim at once.
6. Payments, tips and extra time
Nothing is charged when you send a request. Once your lifeguard is confirmed, we'll text you a secure Stripe link for a 50% deposit to lock in your booking. The balance is due 48 hours before your event.
Payments are processed by Stripe. If your guard agrees to stay longer than booked, extra time is billed at $65 per guard per hour, in 30-minute increments.
Tips are never expected but always appreciated. Cash on the day goes 100% to your lifeguard.
7. Cancellations and weather
Cancel 72+ hours before your event for a full refund. Inside 72 hours the deposit is non-refundable, since your guard has held the date for you. If weather makes the water unsafe, we'll reschedule at no charge.
If we can't provide a lifeguard for a confirmed booking, you'll get a full refund.
8. Risks of swimming
Swimming and water activities carry inherent risks, including serious injury and drowning, that no lifeguard can eliminate. By booking, you acknowledge those risks on behalf of yourself and agree to share these terms with your guests.
9. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Red Can Lifeguards's total liability for any claim related to a booking is limited to the amount you paid for that booking, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited under California law.
You agree to cover claims, costs and damages that arise from the condition of your property or venue, or from your guests' conduct, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct.
10. Our lifeguards
Our lifeguards hold current lifeguard certification and CPR/AED and First Aid training. Please treat them with respect. We may end a booking without refund if a lifeguard is harassed or put in an unsafe situation.
